THE ART OF BEING MY FATHER

1989. A year in fifth grade with Victor Hugo, little Zoé, and her father, who's not quite like other dads...

With Zoé's parents having just separated, her father, wanting to spend time with her, directs the school's end-of-year show: the musical "Les Misérables." Through rehearsals throughout the school year, this extraordinary director tries to instill in the children his love of poetry, his profound sensitivity to the world, and the importance of art in life... But things don't go as smoothly as planned, because the transgressions and excesses of this bipolar father threaten to derail the show. Will it even go on?

Playing a dozen characters herself, Julie Timmerman guides us through this intimate and collective story with great humor and just as much love, navigating between depths and light.

“Like a true conductor, the actress and author delivers a delightful one-woman show. She portrays the characters from her personal story with undisguised freshness and amusement. Her lively writing never lets the momentum flag, and we discover a perfectly measured sense of humor.” LAURENT BOURBOUSSON, OPEN TO THE PUBLIC
